Let’s get moving!
Buzz!
This fast-paced game is a fun, easy way to practice multiplication tables with the kids!
How to Play - Arrange all of the players into a circle. Start counting from 1 in order with each player saying one number on their turn. When it’s time to say a number with 7 in it, a multiple of 7, or any double number (for example, 11 or 22), call out “Buzz!” instead of the number. If a player takes too long to say their number, misses a buzz, or buzzes on the wrong number, they are eliminated. Count as high as you can! The last player standing wins!
And after you’ve mastered the 7s, mix it up with a new number and see how high you can keep the count going!
Stop the Beat!
Get ready to show off your dance moves and your listening skills with this silly dance game!
How to Play - Create a summer party playlist so you can jam and show off your dancing skills. Have one person be in charge of the music. Bring out your whackiest dance moves and groove to your favorite tunes. At random points, the person in charge of the music should stop the song and yell out “freeze!” The dancers have to freeze in whatever position they are in when the music stops and hold it until the music starts up again. Anyone who doesn’t stop dancing or can’t freeze while the music is stopped is out. Add some extra challenge and flair by trying to strike the craziest pose possible when the beat stops. You can jam all night long with this silly, simple game!
Animal Races
Come one, come all to the silliest, craziest, funniest competition you’ve ever seen! Time to test out the waddle of a penguin, the hops of a bunny, and the slithering of a snake for the world’s first Animal Race.
How to Play - It’s easy! Everyone thinks of their favorite animal walk. Some examples include hopping like a frog, squatting and waddling like a duck, skittering like a mouse, stomping like a giant elephant, or inching like an inchworm. Once everyone has picked their animal walk, you line up at the starting line, shout “GO!”, and then the animal race begins! The first animal to cross the finish line wins! You could even play multiple rounds where everybody races with the same animal style. Do a round of waddling penguins then a round of hopping kangaroos. The Animal Races can be adapted for any type of zany zoo fun!
Make it even more exciting by giving competitors extra points for maintaining their animal strut the whole way across the racetrack or for the competitor with the biggest, silliest animal walk. Game best played outdoors where you have space to show off your animal moves in style!
Chicken-Chicken-Dance-Party!
Indoor Hopscotch
Bring the classic outdoor game inside!
How to Play - Use a colored tape (like masking tape) to make draw nine connecting squares to create a traditional hopscotch layout. To do this, squares 1-3 are placed on top of each other in a straight line. Squares 4-5 are drawn next to each other on top of the original three squares. Square 6 sits on top of squares 4-5, and squares 7-8 are drawn on top of box 6. A semi-circle shape finally sits on top of these boxes as a home base and labelled 9. Now choose a game piece to throw, which can be anything from a marker to a stone to a beanbag. The first player throws the marker onto square 1 without touching any of the lines. If he/she does this, the player hops on one foot on the single squares and two feet on the double squares avoiding square 1. You can rest on the home spot before heading back to the front. The player then picks up the marker and throws it to square 2, once again avoiding the lines. This continues until the player reaches home base. The player’s turn is over when he/she misses a square or hits the lines. Then the next player begins from the last box played. The game is over when a player successfully throws the marker on the home base and makes it through the whole course.
Balloon Bounce
Get ready for a wild and crazy game that everyone can play! All you need is a balloon and a big open space to roam.
How to Play – Blow up your balloon as big or as little as you’d like. Then, toss it into the air and try to keep it from touching the floor. You can add extra fun by adding multiple balloons or by adding other boundary spaces (example: the balloon can’t touch the couch or the bookshelf). Try a round where no one can bounce the balloon with their hands or a round where you can only use your left foot to bounce the balloon. The sky is the limit for your balloon bounce game! Game best played indoors (or outdoors if it’s not a windy day) in a wide, open space free from breakables or pointy decorations.
Do what I say, Not what I do
This is a fun twist on Simon Says that will have you laughing all night long!
How to Play – One person is the leader and they face the rest of the group. The leader then does an action and calls out what it is as they do it (example: The leader says, “Touch your ear!” while they touch their ear). Everyone playing has to watch the leader and listen to what they call out and do the same (example: Everyone touches their ear when the leader says, “Touch your ear!”). The trick is, eventually the leader will call out one thing and do another (example: The leader says, “Touch your ear!” and they jump up and down instead). Everyone playing has to do what the leader said instead of what they did. Anyone who does the wrong action is disqualified (example: The leader says, “Touch your ear!” but they jump up and down instead. Everyone who touched their ear without jumping up and down stays in, and everyone who jumped up and down is out). The game continues until only 1 champion remains or until a designated amount of time has passed. Try to go as quick as you can to trick as many people as possible. The last person standing gets to be the leader for the next round (or you can take turns switching off if more than one person is left at the end of the round). Best played with a big group (good for an outdoor, socially-distanced game with friends!)
